A fractal is a repetitive pattern that reveals a similar pattern when it is enlarged. Fractal patterns can be seen in nature – in plants, growth patterns of leaves, spiral shells, river beds, blood vessels, galaxies and more.

The  word “fractal” was coined by Mandelbrot in 1975. A fractal pattern explained as a mathematical concept, is a pattern that repeats itself like a recursive formula. Fractal patterns are modeled using fractal generating software.

A Tanka is a Japanese poem consisting of 31 syllables in 5 lines, with 5 syllables in the first and third lines and 7 in the others.

 

Lei: A wreath for your soul, is a string of short/micro poems meant to celebrate nature, life, generate positivism, inspire, and rejuvenate the Soul.

Patterns indeed are signature of life, past patterns provides trends to future prospects of life…the diversity of patterns in nature provides new insights for innovation and developing newer methods to make life and living better. It is just not about the beauty but about the design and the design of means and modes of looking at life. Nature is the epicenter of creativity and art gets its wings from the power of nature…the fashion we see in the apparels has it genesis from the nature and the designers get their ideas from the nature’s gallery which keep changing season after season and from one geographic location to another…and there is no dearth of patterns in our nature.

    Loved this creative perspective.

    By the way, today it is special day for us Indians, we shouldn’t forget the patterns he created to change the course of our country and we all are indebted to his immeasurable contribution…Happy Gandhi Jayanti!!!

      Let me thank you for sharing these wonderful thoughts.
      Patterns are everywhere, it just needs keen eyes to discern them. Patterns in past are indicative of the future.Big data too is all about deciphering the patterns. Yet nothing can beat the patterns created by the master creator. In petals, in galaxies, in blood vessels, in river beds we see these patterns.
      And yes the patterns of change created by the Mahatma have not only shaped the course of our country but given new perspectives to the world. 🙂

      1. Big Data, yes indeed it going to change the way we look at the world. The patterns that are hidden in these store house of data getting generated every minute, once discovered will make the world a different place to live. I agree nothing can ever beat the master creator…the nature.
        We are all blessed to have Mahatma in our land…who else would have brought the change he brought in the millions of minds and his thought continues to influence every generation…his thoughts were generation ahead.

  6. Nature is the best designer I have ever seen and also the one for precision. Watching the waves of the ocean or seeing the snow (the structure) of our beautiful Himalayas, we cannot just help admiring the beauty of nature and its presentation. Wish our academics delve on teaching children to appreciate than memorize we would have more enlightened kids in future. Happy to link with you.

    I have always believed and even said a number of times that language is an ocean, we cannot have more than a drop ben after diving deep. Having seen all those circular patterns all around us, I must confess I have never tried to know what is fractal! Thanks for the enlightenment dear friend, my morning seems pleasanter.

  10. My math teacher had said about this and am glad that you shared it here. Maths is every where. Our ancestors used mathematics profusely without knowing about it, as an art. Wish maths flourishes in India more than today. Nice post 🙂
