Mother and Child” is a masterpiece painting by Jamini Roy (1887-1972),one of the most renowned Indian artists of the twentieth century . Broad brush strokes, simple forms, stretched eyes, decorative borders and use of flat colours are the dominant motifs in “Jamini Roy” paintings.


A Haiku is a Japanese poem consisting of 17 syllables in 3 lines, with 5 syllables in the first and third lines and 7 in the second.

  1. Interesting painting, Somali. Never heard of it, but glad I do know. It must be a popular kind of painting in Indian culture. Lovely haiku as well. Very apt with the painting – which I’m guessing inspired you 🙂

  2. ..and that is the best place to be! loved how you used the words ‘blue expanse’ .To me they expressed blueness of the world, that empty blues of one’s being , the blue of this famous painting … all encompassed in it !
