blue expanse, sitting enthroned
on his mother’s lap

Mother, the first emotional anchor, the lifeline, the ultimate delight in the life of a child…the other day my little 2.9 year old grand-daughter asked me…’why do babies love their mommies so much?’

Interesting painting, Somali. Never heard of it, but glad I do know. It must be a popular kind of painting in Indian culture. Lovely haiku as well. Very apt with the painting – which I’m guessing inspired you 🙂

Thank you Mabel. Yes, the painting inspired the haiku. Jamini Roy paintings are found in Christie’s and exhibitions are held in London and Europe.

..and that is the best place to be! loved how you used the words ‘blue expanse’ .To me they expressed blueness of the world, that empty blues of one’s being , the blue of this famous painting … all encompassed in it !
Lovely .

Thank you Kokila, Blue expanse could also refer to the vastness of the sky with us humans sitting on the lap of Mother Earth. 🙂

The Haiku and the sketch symbolizes the eternal bond and unbridled affection between a child and a mother, Somali. The words flow directly inside a heart capable only of free and limitless love.
