sweet profits reaped

from thirsty sugarcane farms

cost bitter tears!


As Latur  faces its worst water crisis in four decades, experts attribute it to excessive sugarcane farming. Supposed to be a water guzzling crop, sugarcane requires a lot of water, which has resulted in the depletion of ground water in the drought affected regions of Maharashtra.
