Today as India celebrates its 67th Republic Day, the country honors the bravery of its martyrs and soldiers in the Republic Day Parade. For the first time in the history of India’s Republic day Parade, a foreign (French) contingent has marched down Rajpath on this occasion. With the theme of women empowerment gaining traction, an all-women stunt contingent has performed during the event.
Here are some quotes on Nation Building to capture the spirit of Republic Day. I was nominated by Shweta M of BODHI – an awesome spiritual blog interspersed with esoteric/ metaphysical concepts.
A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Bombs and pistols do not make a revolution. The sword of revolution is sharpened on the whetting-stone of ideas. ~ Bhagat Singh
Great Nation is a nation that respects the services of the hero . ~ Soekarno
If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher. ~ A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Your pride for your country should not come after your country becomes great; your country becomes great because of your pride in it.
― Idowu Koyenikan
In a democracy, the well-being, individuality and happiness of every citizen is important for the overall prosperity, peace and happiness of the nation. ~ A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Adding on another quote shared by Mr Kamal Kothari of Vedanta Thoughts
No nation can ever hold up its head, far less take pride of place amongst the nations of the world, if the individuals of which it is comprised think of nothing but personal gain and self glorification. ~ Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

Yes Somali, it is such a wonderful day, I never miss watching the march past parade, I am doing so right now and it makes us feel so proud of our country and the great soldiers driving the parade. You don’t see such diversity in any part of the world, indeed the women contingency are the real star this year and it feels so nice to see man and woman walk past the parade with equal pride and equal vigor…this is our great country India.
Each quotes are equally powerful, but Mahatma Gandhi’s…”A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people…” stand out.
Wishing you a very Happy 67th Republic Day…

I may be a little late but wishes come from my heart…may India continue to march ahead, as always. We have accomplished a lot but much more needs to be done.
Nice collection of quotes to inspire.
My thoughts go back to those days when we used to celebrate the day with children and felt proud of their enthusiasm…so infectious that the joy of preparations would keep us in high spirits for many days.
Hope you had a nice day…a day to thank technology also, which could transport us back to Rajpath with the click of a button! 🙂

Somali, I came across an ad for a contest on “My duties as a citizen” instituted by our PM. I am totally with him on this front. Indians have for too long just sat back and expected the government to hand over a smooth life on a platter. No government can do that. A nation is built by its people. The government’s role is simply to create an enabling environment. Let’s hope all these initiatives, including posts like yours, gets Indians to realize that each one of us has a role to play.

Thank you Lata. I agree that government has to d its work in creating an enabling environment. At the same time, each of us can do whatever is there in our capacity to make the country a tad better.

Very inspiring quotes Somali 🙂 And it is so true. We have to take pride in our country for it to become great. Not just that, but on an individual level, we should begin the change no matter how tiny they are.

Thank you for your views Ranjini. I agree that change, however small, can be brought about at an individual level and should not be undermined.
